If the harness is out if this range, the harness keeps the racer trapped in the vehicle after some unforeseen accident, or compress the racer's spine. The harness bar is usually mounted right behind the front seats, and to the existing factory seat belt strongholds. The result is a stiffer chassis, no messy seat belt harness straps, and most importantly: safety.
